Business computing is the study and application of computer technology in a commercial setting. It blends aspects of computing with subjects such as accounting, marketing, information systems, and business strategy to enable people to use computer technologies to create solutions for organisational problems.
Businesses need individuals who can create robust efficient, reliable, and user-friendly systems that can be used to implement organisational solutions in an era where computers are increasingly used for information delivery and analysis of data. Our BSc (Hons) Business Computing degree will equip you with the skills and knowledge to be successful in this rapidly changing field and will include guest lecturers from business organizations sharing their experiences with you.
You will also acquire the other skills employers seek in IT professionals. They include leadership, teamwork managing projects, and solving problems. The degree will provide a base of knowledge in areas like programming and software development, web design, databases, and information systems, in addition to making it possible to specialize in areas of data analytics, marketing or advanced computer science.
The course will provide you with a strong understanding of the Windows environment and the use of Windows applications software, including word processing with Word 2002 for Windows, spreadsheets and database management systems and presentation graphics software and the Internet. It will also teach you about e-commerce and computer security.
Typically, teaching is through seminars and lectures, with many courses including laboratory-based computer exercises. You will be expected to conduct your own research and study at home and at the university.
